My Life As An 8 Bit Nintendo Game

I had an epiphany... while playing an old school Nintendo game online. First some background on the game. It's a race car game where you have attempt to pass the cars in front of you. A pretty typical racing game I guess.

The only thing is the cars in front will NOT let me pass. They just weave in front of my car and make me drive at about 3/4 throttle. Once I do actually pass the car by kicking in the nitro boosters I end up running into the next car in line. My car smokes and spins out and I have to start all over. It's quite frustrating. To the point of me yelling at the cars.

So how does this relate to my life? Well, not my life necessarily, but really just what my life has entailed the last four months. In the classroom I feel as though I have a decent leash on my students. Some days. Yesterday, not so much. For example, I will be up in front teaching them the ins and outs of the Iraq War (not in the curriculum but someone has to tell them the truth... they can't rely on the biased media). They will be really getting into it, asking great questions, relating their own stories, and ripping on France for being pansies (ok, that was me). When all of a sudden I have Student A start making these weird mouth noises. I get him to stop. A minute later Student B decides she's going to start talking to a student across the room... I put a halt to that. Then Student C decides she needs to pinch her finger in the desk and scream as loud as she can. Just like the game. I'm going good... crash. I get back up, start going... crash. Don't give up Brandon, you can do... CRASH! Enough. I just stopped the lesson and told them they made the choice to do boring work instead of learning something that will help them understand the world. Keep in mind this is only a five minute sample of my day. And this was today, not Hellday (Monday). I love the kids and enjoy spending time with them in and outside of class, but man alive...

Now, an update on the Sunday update. First, our question winner goes to...

Jane (aka Mom) - Congrats Ma. Don't worry though I have a whole drawer full of these things. I'll be posting a new contest this weekend hopefully. And Sara, if you don't win one of the contests I'm sure I will be able to sneak an extra bumper sticker or two in my luggage coming home.

Tomorrow night I will be packing for my Anchorage trip to land my next job, hopefully and not hopefully. I have mixed feelings on whether I want to stay up here for another year.

My wanted list: Sleeping bag- I bought one at REI.com (love that place!) that was 35% off. It should be a good one. Hopefully it'll be warm enough (+35). I made that transaction roughly 12 minutes after I posted it on here. If only all of my wishes came true that soon...

Miss Weio - I got an email back from her... not so much. Long story short- she doesn't know who I am.

The end.
