I Haven't Moved Off My Bed All Day Just For You

Good Morning! I realize by the time I get this posted it won't be morning anymore and likely when you read this it won't be the morning, but it just feels good saying it. It really is a good morning. No, Miss Weio didn't come over last night... ha. I am looking outside and it's so pristine. We have a slough behind our house and it's frozen over. It's about 8:30 so none of the four wheelers are out and about. It reminds me of sitting in the stand during deer season. As for the pictures- First one was our Earth Day Walk, it was the first nice day of the year so we put off work for the day and headed down to the river. 2nd- my favorite student. 3rd- one of the few couples in my class... this creates quite a few discussion points in my class. 4th- MALLIE!! or as he is known to his owners "Shiloh".

Remind me to tell the story about my student that is potentially a drug user. Really he isn't, but after reading a paper of his I began to wonder...

Well, onto the update. First things first- Heartbeat Alaska
Now I could just as easily direct you to to read everything you ever wanted to read about the recent news of Alaska, but I am nice enough to read it for you, then retype it for some reason. This is some service you've got. I really didn't watch any news or read any newspaper until yesterday. The one thing that stood out to me was a story about a wolf that got caught in a snare up in Denali National Park. This was one of the famous wolves that was photogenic and loved being out in sight during tourist season. He was caught in a legal snare that was set up outside of the park. Somehow someone saw him running around with this wire around his neck and the hunt was on. They hired a spotter plane to fly down and search for him, eventually finding him and tranquilizing him to get the cable snare off. After it was all said and done they spent over $4,000 on this wolf's life.

Wanted
Well I didn't get a grinder, nor did I receive a glorious Azteca burrito. Damn the man. That's probably for the better, I have been told not to eat too many burritos or else I will get fat. So what could I possibly want now you ask? How about some organizational skills. I have "stuff" everywhere. Even my pictures and music. I have some on my school computer, I have some on my regular computer, I have some still on my camera and some more on my external hard drive and there are some more on an old memory card that I haven't uploaded yet. It's ridiculous. So instead of getting those put together I will continue to write this silly blog and eat my omelette.

Top List
What I'm loving right now:
1. The weather - sunshine!
2. Poker (anyone know of a game around Frazee that I can get in when I get back?)
3. Kenny Wayne Shepard. Incredible artist. For anyone that is familiar with him- shame on you for not introducing him to me. For those of you that are not, I recommend checking him out.
4. The movie Juno. Was a little hesitant about this one, but it actually was pretty good.
5. Tayler. Happy Birthday, woman.
6. To all the moms, but especially mine: Happy Mother's Day. Thanks for all you do!

Bottom List
1. Sore Muscles.
2. Monday Mornings.
3. Dry skin.
4. Having three weeks worth of material to teach in a little over a week, not counting lost time due to spring fever.
5. Cleaning my bedroom & classroom

Word of the Week
Manaq Muh Nuck. To fish. As in, "I went manaqing last night." Many times the English and Yupik are combined in a sentence. It would be odd for someone to talk about fishing, even a white person up here. You manaq, not fish. Here's a picture of my students cutting up some fish.

Quiz of the Week
Ok, so I received a plethora of complaints about my attitude concerning the quiz last week. So I guess I will make it up to you all this week with a really good prize for the first to answer. I'm not going to say what it is yet, but I guarantee you it's going to be a good one. And don't be bashful, vote! Even if I don't know you. On to the quiz.

What is Toksook Bay, a village nearby, known for?
a. A few generations ago, the people were all assigned their father's first names as their last names.
b. It is the last place the salmon swim to when they lay their eggs, therefore everyone goes there for sping manaqing.
c. It is the only one where the women outnumber the men.
d. It is the only one with a road from Bethel that allows travel year round.

You can put your answer in the comment section, facebook me, or email it to me.

That's it, Have yourself a great week.
