Well I made it... Alaska, the Last Frontier. I would have to say that I was very surprised at the lack of nervousness and excitement I had during the last few weeks leading up to my move. Even today on the flights I never really grasped what I was actually getting myself into. After an entire day of flying (17 hours), the principal came to meet me at the airport along with a caravan of kids... think I met about 6 of them, a few of which will be in my classroom... if only I could remember their names now. Pretty sure she has a kid in both my fifth grade class and sixth grade class so I'm really going to have to be on my game. Oh, that reminds me, I better explain what I will be doing for those of you that are actually still reading and don't know. I'm teaching fifth and sixth graders at a Language Immersion School. Basically, in Kindergarten, first, and second grade they learn nothing but their native language, Yupik (prounounced: You Pick). In 3 & 4 they learn in English for only 25% of the day and Yupik the rest. Finally when they get to me they will learn 1/2 English and 1/2 Yupik. So, I get fifth graders in the morning, mostly for Language Arts, then sixth graders for the same. Alright that's about enough for the first post. I'm going to tour the town tomorrow with Agatha and maybe I'll snap some shots. If you need to get a hold of me, call my cell and leave a message. Email is also great - b_young42@hotmail.com. Anyways, hope you are doing great. And now... a picture of my 2 strapping nephews, Bobby & Clive, and beautiful new niece, Nora.
